ACCESSIBILITY: We want everyone to be able to participate in our singing as fully as possible. We’ve specifically chosen these venues for their physical accessibility features, including air conditioning, and our Conduct Guidelines ask community members to be aware of how they can make space for others and ensure everyone’s needs are met when singing, eating, and gathering together. Please contact the Chairs at suzmcfate [at] gmail [dot] com if there’s anything we can do to help you feel more comfortable participating in the singing, or if there’s information you think should be included here to support singers’ access needs.

Unity Church – Friday/Saturday – see https://www.unityunitarian.org/directions-and-parking.html for general directions and parking info

  • ENTRANCE: All activities take place on the main floor, near the main entrance to the building at the corner of Grotto St. and Portland Ave. This entrance has a ramp and automatic doors, and there is a short distance between the main door and the singing space. Doorways and hallway should be easily navigable for those who use mobility equipment.
  • PARKING: Street parking is plentiful on Grotto St. and Portland Ave. near the main/sanctuary entrance; we recommend this because it’s easiest to find the singing space from here. There is also a small parking lot reserved for those with disabled parking permit tags/plates on the east side of the building — enter from Holly Ave. just east of Grotto St. The entrance from this parking lot is also wheelchair-accessible, but slightly further away from the singing room.
  • RESTROOMS: Both men’s and women’s restrooms have wheelchair-accessible stalls with grab bars, and there is also a single-room all-gender restroom that is accessible. Restrooms are just outside the singing space, on the same level.
  • DINNER ON THE GROUNDS: Food and beverages are set up in the singing space, with tables in the foyer just outside the room (i.e. no stairs or long distance to walk). We do our best to emphasize the importance of clearly labeling food and checking for possible “hidden” or unexpected allergens. If you need assistance to fill your plate or get to a comfortable place to sit, one of our Navigators will be happy to help.

Audubon Recreation Center – Sunday – see https://www.minneapolisparks.org/parks-destinations/recreation_centers_program_facilities/audubon_recreation_center/ for general information

  • ENTRANCE: The building is one floor, with a level entrance with automatic doors. The distance from the entrance to the singing room is short, and the hallways and doorways are wheelchair-accessible. This building is smaller with somewhat tighter spaces than Unity Church. We do our best to leave enough space for mobility equipment, and our Navigators will be watching out to help, but please don’t hesitate to speak up and ask folks to move things around or assist you through a congested area.
  • PARKING: There is a small parking lot immediately at the entrance of the rec center, with a few spaces reserved for those with disabled parking permit tags/plates. However, this is a public park, so while we ask singers to park on the street to preserve lot spaces for who need them, we can’t guarantee there will be spots open. Please speak with the Chairs or Navigators if you need assistance and we can have someone who’s arriving early reserve a space for you, or “valet park” your car on the street for you, etc.
  • RESTROOMS: Restrooms are on the same level a short distance from the singing room. They are wheelchair-accessible single rooms with grab bars.
  • DINNER ON THE GROUNDS: Food and beverages are set up in the singing space, with some tables in the same room. Most eating tables will be set up immediately outside the room if the weather is nice; the exit is level but the area is grassy, not paved. Some singers will also eat in the lounge or other rooms of the rec center which are all accessible. Again, we do our best to leave enough room to navigate with mobility equipment, but given the smaller space, it may be a bit more difficult; please speak with the Chairs or Navigators if you need assistance.
